SC Citizens to Gather at State House for International Women’s Day
For Immediate Release:
Columbia, South Carolina, March 8 — In observance of International Women’s Day this Wednesday, Indivisible Midlands is hosting a gathering from 1:30–2:30PM at the Gervais Street side of the State House. This event is part of the International Women’s Strike and A Day Without A Woman demonstrations happening in more than 50 different countries around the globe. A group of non-partisan citizen supporters of women’s rights will gather with signs as a show of solidarity with the pursuit of women’s rights worldwide. We ask that participants wear red as a show of support.
The mission of the International Women’s Strike and ours is to raise awareness about the need to address gender-based inequities in pay and labor, violence against women (both interpersonal and at the hands of the state), reproductive rights, systematic oppression of women of color, and recent discriminatory legislation aimed at transgender women.
Indivisible Midlands is a non-partisan, grassroots organization committed to resisting the Trump agenda by focusing on citizen engagement with the members of Congress representing South Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District.
